Optical Illusions

So, I've been away for quite a while and I feel it's only fair to update my blog with the various antics that have been happening as I've been gone.

Finally finished my first year at The Nottingham Trent University with great experiences of the university as a whole but brilliant ones with the course in particular. My last project was the Colour Project, which I based on all things optical and illusional. My initial research led me to extensive work with print design and kaleidoscope effects embedded into my own photography. With regarded to silhouettes, however, I turned to simplistic and rather geometric shapes with structured finishes. This then related to a combination of structured and malleable fabrics, creating a juxtaposition within the outfit as a whole.

Something New at NTU

So, at uni a lot of different things happen and you learn a lot of lessons. Different people have their different niches and at my uni accommodation, The Maltings, the Head of Halls (A-T) and our friends/flatmates like to dip our toes into a little bit of video blogging; documenting what crazy things happen on a day-to-day basis here. Plus it gives me a bit of a chance to, as the Halls Community Rep, bring the Maltings community together in a little bit of fun. Watch this video and enjoy...

NTU White Project, 'Organic Architecture'

These are the final photographs from my White Project at NTU. I took my inspiration from 'Organic Architecture' which consists of elements such as nature, natural structures, insects and plants. Through my research I found that through natural structures I related it a lot to protection and the concept of armoury for living things. For instance the bark of a tree offers protection to it as a shell on an insect would. I wanted to create an ideal that the clothes we wear act as a form of protection to our soft and fragile bodies.

From this I then thought of how an insect would have an inner body and then an exoskeleton on the outside. I sourced a stiff Organdie to become my human's 'exoskeleton' and a soft bleached Calico to become the tangible and soft innards.

Work, More Work & Further Education

Finally today is the first day that I haven't been revising for exams, yet, still, somehow, I have so much work to do.
I am at the peak of my courses and am frantically trying to get all my work done but also in this strange impatient state to hear from all of the universities I have applied to. I'm excited to find out but anxious too. So far I've had two interviews, that have been drastically different, and heard from a total of 4 of my unis (but no rejections yet!).
It is a pretty long process, one that many arts students really dont realise they have to endure. And so, in order to redeem my school's nonchalance, I should hopefully be taking part or even holding a 'further education in art' event at school to help educate these girls in how much of a zig-zag road it is to a successful career within the creative industry.

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a Monster? No...its UCAS, say hello kids.

Well, given that I have been slaving away on my UCAS application since July 2011 now I am really flippin' happy that it has FINALLY been sent off and now it is just the waiting game I have to play. It probably isn't much of a surprise but I have applied to study Fashion/Fashion & Textiles Design. I am stupidly excited about university and to be honest I just can't wait to only study the subject I love. I've visited some beautiful places and universities which only entices me more with possible opportunities and adventures that lie ahead. Let's wait and see then.
